How my grandmother was recovering from a stroke
and I got lost in the forest and talked to the trees

"My grandmother had a stroke in 2006. It had affected her vocal apparatus so she has been confusing and misperceiving letters and words ever since. I remember helping her recover – we used to write and spell letters together. Ironically, for a long time, the situation was reversed, as my grandmother is a Russian language teacher and so she used to make me vocabulary tests and write out words that were misspelled every summer.
The photograph is my story of wandering, losing, and finding my way. One of my most disturbing childhood memories is getting lost in the woods. I didn't know where to go, so I desperately asked the trees for directions, but they only rustled back, and then I got out." - Alina Brovina
In this project, the artist transforms the spaces of the forest by enriching them with some letter-shaped objects. Alina offers an alternative way of navigation augmented by her personal experiences.
